Fishing in Aviemore, Cairngorms, Strathspey & Badenoch areas

Fishing Seasons:  
 
Brown Trout:
The brown trout seasons runs from 15th March to 6th October inclusive. However some fisheries delay the start of the season further to allow the fish to reach better condition.
 
  Rainbow Trout:
There is no official close season for rainbow trout and many fisheries remain open all year. Check specific dates with owner of fishery.

Salmon:
There are varying open and close season dates for salmon fishing on the major systems in Scotland. However, it is possible to fish somewhere in Scotland from the 15th January to 30 November, inclusive. Check first.

Fishing on Sundays is prohibited

 

Coarse Fishing:
There is no official close season for coarse fishing and many fisheries remain open all year. Check specific dates with owner of fishery.

 

Loch Insh Watersports Centre. With 14 acres of forested land and 700 acres of beautiful Highland Loch to enjoy, there are plenty of activities for everyone. Offer great fishing for Salmon, Trout and Char in Loch Insh and  have a stocked Lochan for beginners.

 Rothiemurchus Highland Estate  has trout fishing on its stocked loch at Inverdruie, where you can hire rods.The Fishery caters for all angling requirements.

You can fish for trout and salmon on the River Spey. Fishing permits cost around £10-15 per day for the stocked lochs and £20-30 per day for the River Spey. They are sold at local shops such as Speyside Sports in Aviemore, Tel 01479 810656, and at Loch Morlich Water sports Centre, Tel: 01479 861221, which also hires out rods and tackle
