Loch Garten Osprey Centre. Abernethy Forest. Loch Garten is famous for the ospreys that can be seen from the Osprey Centre in summer.  As well as an excellent view of the nest, live video pictures are relayed back to the centre, where staff are on hand to explain what is happening.  The walk from the car park to the centre takes you through rare Caledonian pine forest, where you may see crested tits, Scottish crossbills or red squirrels.
10 miles/16 km east of Aviemore between the villages of Boat of Garten and Nethybridge off the B970. Follow the RSPB osprey signs.

Loch Ruthven. Slightly out of  Cairngorm area but only about 30 minutes from Carrbridge. This beautiful loch is fringed by sedges and birch woods with open moorland.  It is the most important site in the UK for the rare Slavonian grebe.  The hide provides the perfect setting to watch the grebes without causing disturbance. Ospreys can be seen regularly and there is also a chance of seeing a peregrine or hen harrier
