By Car:
From the North:
- Take the M6 motorway.
- Exit at junction 40.
- Join the A592 past Pooley Bridge and Ullswater, culminating with the spectacular Kirkstone Pass.
- The road will wind down through the charming valley of Troutbeck where, near the bottom of the valley, take a right hand turn up the hill towards Troutbeck village.
- Drive through the village and follow this road (Bridge Lane) towards Troutbeck Bridge, passing the historic ‘Townend House’ along the way.
- After approximately one mile you will find Broadoaks on your left.
From the South:
- Take the M6 motorway.
- Exit at junction 36.
- Follow the signs for Windermere and the Southern Lake District.
- After approximately 12 miles, the A591 road will lead you past Windermere village towards Ambleside.
- At the small roundabout at Cook’s House Corner, continue straight over from where you will come to the next small village, Troutbeck Bridge.
- Proceed through the village and, just after the Esso petrol station, take the right turning signposted Troutbeck (YHA sign).
- Follow this road for approximately one mile and Broadoaks is on the right-hand side.
By Air:
Manchester, Glasgow, Leeds/Bradford, Liverpool and Newcastle airports offer easy access to the area.
Manchester Airport has its own rail station with direct services to Windermere.
By Coach:
National Express Rapide services from London (Victoria) to Kendal, Ulverston, Ambleside, Barrow and Windermere.
By Train:
The nearest train station is in Windermere, a 10 minute taxi ride away.
Stations for the area include Lancaster and Oxenholme - the Lake District (near Kendal) on the main West Coast line.
