Information about the hotel
In the quietest of villages, yet central to Somerset’s attractions, this relaxed farmhouse dates back to the 1500s and is 15 minutes from the coast and 10 minutes from Bridgwater.
Originally the village farmhouse, Chestnut House’s comfortable accommodation was recently renovated to a high standard. The house now offers personal service, comfortable guest lounges, a garden, veranda and 7 fully appointed en suite double bedrooms (2 with access from outside the main building).
Located in a secluded village only 5 minutes from junction 23 of the M5, Chestnut House is ideal for stopovers, as a base for business, or for exploring the sights and wonders of Somerset. You would have to look far and wide to find anywhere as quiet and peaceful as the old village of Woolavington.
With a Tourist Board Silver Award and free wireless internet access throughout, Chestnut House aims to offer only the very best in style and comfort.
The hotel is totally non-smoking throughout, except on the veranda and in the garden, of course.
Chestnut House has a 5-star Quality Britain (English Tourism Council) rating, as well as having achieved a Silver Award for the last three years. Local Attractions
- Burnham on Sea (8 miles) - A great beach and all the attractions of the seaside. There is a long promenade with the usual pier-type entertainments. That said, Burnham is a very pleasant throughout the year. We enjoy sitting on the beach with our fresh fish n' chips. Sad but fun!
- Clarks Village, Street (10 miles) - Vast array of designer shops alongside huge selections of Clarks shoes and other brands. Worth taking the credit card! In fact, we defy you not to!!
- Glastonbury (16 miles) - Abbey, Tor, High Steet 'New Age' shops, Chalice Well and much, much more. The captial of the pre-England country of Wessex with heaps of history to go with it. The town has the most wonderful feel and a mere 15 mins from Chestnut House down the A39.
- Wells (18 miles) - 30 mins away. Cathedral, oldest Medieval working street, Bishop's Palace and much more. Our favourite place to visit in Somerset. A joy to wander around. Weds/Sats are market day. Wookey Hole is 1 mile outside Wells and well worth a visit.
Getting there
By Car (from the M5 motorway):
- Leave the M5 at junction 23 and follow the signs towards Wells/Glastonbury.
- Immediately turn left towards Puriton.
- Continue on through Puriton and out into the country for a minute.
- At Woolavington crossroads, turn left towards the church.
- Opposite the church is Lower Road.
- Turn into Lower Road and go along to the village green.
The hotel is on the left-hand side, opposite the post box as the lane narrows.
