Local Attractions

  • The Burren (13 miles) - The Burren lies south of Galway in County Clare, Ireland. The name Burren is from the Irish bhoireann meaning a stony place. Its formation has lain unspoiled since the ice-age and is composed of limestone, occuping an area of approximately 300 sq km.
  • Cliffs of Moher (16 miles) - The cliffs of Moher, plunge 700 feet to the sea and extend for five miles. One of the most awe inspiring parts of Ireland and next time you hit land its the East Coast of the United States
  • Bunratty Castle (29 miles) - Bunratty castle was built in 1425 and authentically restored in 1954. The folk park is situated on 26 acres and recreates 19th century Ireland. Features include a recreated village street, farmhouses, a watermill, a blacksmith's, Mac's pub, a church.
  • Connemara (72 miles) - One of the last unspoilt areas of Ireland where the first language is usually Irish. This natural terrain and unspoilt environment offers the visitor a wonderland of sights, experiences, adventure and activities.

Getting there

 

Directions form Shannon International Airport:
- At the 1st roundabout, take the 1st exit onto Airport Road, N19 (signposted Galway, Limerick Ennis). - At the next 2 roundabouts, take the 2nd exit onto the N19 (signposted all routes). - At Shannon town roundabout, take the 2nd exit onto the N19 (signposted Galway, Limerick). - At the next roundabout, take the 1st exit, then merge onto the N18. - Continue forward onto the N18, entering Ennis. - Once you reach Ennis, drive straight through 5 sets of traffic lights, continue until you come to a large roundabout (Cusack roundabout).
- Take the last exit for the N85, signposted ‘Lehinch/Ennistymon’ and after ½ mile, turn left at the ‘One Mile Inn’ and the Woodstock Hotel is situated approximately ¾ mile down that road on the left. Directions from Galway:
- Take the N18 via Clarinbridge, Kilcolgan, Ardrahan, Gort, Crusheen and Ennis. - Approaching Ennis town, turn right at the 1st roundabout.
- Follow directions as above.
